Many valid points - I think it important for every member of a search team to understand what each other does in at least some detail. Having the knowledge that any member of the team can help you out if you are starting to get snowed under or can easily take over when you are on holiday is very valuable. Links in with trust. Working in a search team that trusts one another makes for a happy working environment, which in turn leads to a more efficient team which generates better results for clients - keeps the client happy. When the client is happy - life is that little bit easier.
